[ about us ]

In Hugo’s native Ecuador a “minga” is when the community comes together for a common purpose, often to construct a building or a public work. What Hugo loves about architecture is the collaboration and collective work that happens between the architect and client.

Minga Architecture works between Seattle, Washington and Quito, Ecuador. Hugo started his career in Quito, Ecuador, receiving a degree in architecture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador in 2005. After spending 14 years in Seattle and obtaining his Architect License, Hugo wanted to share what he had learned about architecture and construction in the U.S. with his Ecuadorian community while providing quality design and modeling services to our clients/partners in Seattle and surrounding areas.

Meet the ambitious team behind Minga Architecture

Hugo Carrión Berru, RA, AIA

[ Founder & Director ]
Bio

Hugo is a positive person with a keen eye to anticipate and prepare for challenging scenarios. He loves the personal approach that residential architecture design requires. Hugo is driven by getting to know clients and fully understanding their needs to help create unique, welcoming spaces for them. Graduated from “Universidad Catolica del Ecuador” with a bachelor's in architecture, Hugo started his career in the design/build arena for multi-family and single-family projects in his native Quito, Ecuador. In 2009 he and his wife moved to Seattle, where he started as a carpenter, later held a position as an ADA inspector for the Postal Service and finally got back into Architecture in 2013. Hugo obtained his Architecture License in the state of Washington in 2022 and started planning on a way to share what he has learned in the US with his Ecuadorian community. Minga Architecture is the realization of this dream.

Mary Moncayo

[ BIM Manager ]
Bio

Mary graduated as an architect in 2017 from the "Universidad Central del Ecuador". She has experience in planning, design and construction of single-family and multi-family housing as well as commercial and tourism buildings. Mary developed her skills as a BIM modeler and manager by studying and practicing BIM methodology (4 years) as a parametric and collaborative work tool.

For Mary the impact that architecture has over human behavior, the feelings and emotions it provokes, led her to become an architect; and it is one of the strongest links with the purpose of Minga; the personal approach and attention to detail, as it is a service to the community.
